- Privacy Policy — version 3.0 → 3.1
We updated our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy on August 17, 2026. Here is what changed, in plain words. 1) Your customers can now pay you through the app. When you email a client invoice, it carries a link. Your customer opens it and can pay the bill with a card. They can still pay you any other way you two arrange — cash, check, your own card reader. That is your call and ours never. (Our old Terms said client invoices only existed for jobs with a customer attached; you can bill any job now, so we fixed that wording too.) 2) There is a fee, but only when they pay through the app. TheGuys App keeps 5% of what your customer pays, the same 5% we keep when you pay a crew member. The card company's processing fee also comes out of that payment. The rest lands in your Stripe account. If your customer pays you outside the app, we charge nothing on it. 3) The rate is locked per invoice. Whatever rate applies when the first payment attempt is made is the rate for that invoice, forever — it never changes on a retry. We can lower your rate; we cannot raise it above 5%. 4) The bill is still yours. It has your business name on it, your customer's card statement shows your business name, and any question, refund or dispute about the work or the amount is between you and your customer. We do not decide who is right about a bill. 5) Our Privacy Policy now covers your customers too. Because your customer opens a private page and can pay by card, we now handle a little information about them directly — not just the name and email you typed on the invoice. The Privacy Policy now says so, and has a new section (Section 23) written for your customers that explains what we collect from them, why, and how they can ask us about it. 6) What we collect from a customer, exactly. When they open the payment page: the time, a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of their internet address and browser — never the raw values — whether the page was really used by a person, whether Pay was pressed, and a short outcome code. When they pay: their card details go straight into Stripe's form and never touch our servers; we keep the amount, the date, Stripe's reference numbers, and the email address the invoice went to. Nothing they type is recorded. No advertising or tracking cookies. 7) What you see, and what your customer sees. You see when your invoice was emailed, when it was first viewed, and when and how much was paid — never their card details. Your customer sees your business name and contact details on the invoice — never what you paid your crew. 8) Two service providers added to the list, and one link fixed. Upstash (the counter that stops abusive traffic — it holds an internet address for about an hour at most) and Sentry (error reports when something breaks) were already part of how the app runs; the policy now names them. The policy's own web address, theguys.app/privacy, now works. 9) Nothing else changed. We still do not sell anyone's information, still do not advertise, and still do not use your books to train AI.
